Let’s Talk Trash
0

This week, a handful of people hit the roadsides and ditches across Union Township to pick up litter.  Armed only with garbage bags and high-visibility vests, they roamed our part of the county to collect the wrappers, cans, and bottles tossed thoughtlessly from a moving car… as well as those tires, rolls of carpet, and other bulky items that had been more maliciously dumped.

Rather than complain about polluters, I’d like to use this post to express gratitude to those who came out to clean up.  For giving up your personal time, for the pain in your feet and knees that came from climbing roadsides, for the sore back from all that lifting you did.  Thank you.

And thanks, too, to the Union Township board for facilitating the effort.  Lots of people come here to enjoy our towns, woods, and waters.  With so much company coming, it is nice that our house is in order.

Note:  This photo is just one pile among many, before the trash was loaded up again and taken to the Oakland Collection Center.
